TREBLINKA EXTERMINATION CAMP
ITINERARY
It’s highly significant for the Warsaw community, since all three hundred thousand of the capital’s Jews perished here. Treblinka was a strictly extermination camp, leaving no hope of survival for those deprived of humanity and sentenced to death by the Nazis. But still, it was there where courageous men and women decided to fight for their lives which resulted in a major escape of close to 200 prisoners of which a hundred survived the war.
Destroyed before the Soviet advance, the place was even ploughed up the Nazis to hide evidence of mass murder. Because of that, today you can experience very emotional, breath-taking monuments set up on the former grounds of the gas chambers, the body burning installations and the ashes pits. A museum with a mockup of the camp and an explanatory movie help you to realize the gruesome facts about this strictly death camp.
Along the way to Treblinka you will be introduced to aspects of the Holocaust, also from Warsaw’s point of view.
